It is required by the Department of Transportation (DOT) that applicants and holders of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) undergo a physical examination every two (2) years. The purpose of these examinations is to assure that drivers are physically able to operate a commercial vehicle safely.

Exam requirements include:

  • Able to recognize colors of a traffic signal (red, yellow, green)
  • Minimum of 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction
  • Able to hear a forced whisper from 5 feet away, with or without a hearing aid
  • Maximum blood pressure of 140/90
  • No use of habit-forming drugs

DOT physicals are performed by one of our certified medical examiners.
